HEALTH TIP #20:
Nutrition food label - Daily value

When looking at the nutritional facts table of a food product, you should refer to the % Daily Value (DV) in order to know if that specific food has a little or a lot of a certain nutrient. As a rule of thumb for all nutrients on the label, 5% DV or less is considered a little and 15% DV or more is considered a lot.

To make easier and healthier choices, there are certain nutrients that you want more of and other nutrients that you want less of. For example, choose foods that contain more nutrients such asfibre, iron, vitamin A and calcium and less of other nutrients such as fat, saturated fat, trans fat and sodium.

The % Daily Value should be used on a regular basis when shopping for food in order to compare and make better food product choices.

Take care of your health, you’re worth it!
