HEALTH TIP #9:
Exercise tips for the holidays
With the Holidays upon us, our exercise routine, for most of us, usually takes a backseat to everything else that is going on during this busy time of year. With parties and gatherings, we often tend to indulge with food and drinks more often than we usually do. In order to keep your weight in check and to stay active, take the time to plan your exercise strategies for the holidays.
Here are few tips that may help you to stay active during this hectic time of the year:
· Try doing 15-20 min of exercise per day instead of the usual 30 min - 1 hour
· Instead of going to the gym, try a 20 minute session at home with inexpensive and basic equipment, such as resistance bands, an exercise ball or dumbbells
· Plan outings with family or friends such as a walk in the park, ice skating, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, etc.
· During gatherings with family or friends, organize more active games in order to get people moving such as Wii, Kinect, charades, etc.
Remember, don't aim for perfection; take time to enjoy the imperfections of the holiday season. If this means that you’re not as active as you usually are, remind yourself that it is only for a short period of time.
